Kpopmap had the honor of exclusively interviewing the girl group. Kpopmap asked Groo to gather questions that they wanted to ask the members. The girls spoke about concepts they want to try in the future, their favorite GWSN performances/songs, artists who inspire them, and more. Read all about it below.
Questions by Roan @groonation_: Is the story of GWSN going to continue? For example, the wish notes for the first 3 albums. We want to show you a different story each time. Miya I want to do it again because it is a charm that only GWSN has. SeoKyoung “The Park in the Night” series may be over already but GWSN’s story is going to continue. SeoRyoung Do you want it to continue, Groo? Anne I want us to try our best to continue with a better story. MinJu It can continue, or a new story can begin. Imagine various things while waiting for us. LeNa Lena and SeoRyoung, what was it like to write lyrics for “The Other Side of the Moon”? Do you want to keep writing lyrics for GWSN? I’ve had a lot of interest in writing lyrics and composing since before but being able to participate in writing lyrics through this album made me very happy. I think doing promotional activities while singing a song that I participated in producing broadened my perspective as an artist. Especially when it comes to expressing the song. If I get the opportunity to write lyrics and compose, I want to continue studying and challenging myself. SeoRyoung As my first time formally participating in making GWSN’s album, I think it had a deep meaning and I enjoyed every moment of producing. LeNa Is there any hair color you want to try in the future? I want to try a lot of different ones. Miya I’ll try out a hairstyle if Groo recommends me one. SeoKyoung Uhm… I’ve always wanted to try gray hair! I think it’s because I’ve often heard that bright hair suits me well. SeoRyoung I want to try blue-black hair with ash tones mixed in. Anne I want to try blue or black hair. MinJu I want to try many fun hairstyles because you only live once. LeNa You talked about moving towards a darker concept with ‘Like It Hot’ and ‘I Can’t Breathe’, do you still plan on doing a darker concept? If we get the chance then I want to do it again. Miya We think of the concept for each album. We want to try a lot of different concepts. SeoKyoung The next concept is… shhh~! (｡•̀ᴗ-)✧ SeoRyoung Do Groo want to see a darker concept? Anne I’m not sure yet but I think that while we’re doing a bunch of different concepts that we’ll maybe do it one more time. MinJu We want to show you diverse sides, so I don’t want to limit ourselves to one. LeNa Do you have any memorable/funny/cute moments or memories from this era? When we performed ‘I Can’t Breathe’. Miya I had a great time when all the members were listening to carols and pretending to be a virtual band. SeoKyoung I don’t really have a moment that comes to mind. SeoRyoung When we did the ‘Like It Hot’ stage for the first time on MCountdown and the moments when I filmed for my first movie. Anne The first time that I bleached my hair this year was memorable. MinJu Every moment is unforgettable and precious. LeNa Are there any other groups/idols inspiring you right now? Wonstein / lIlBOI Miya Niki Zefanya, I love her. SeoKyoung I really like and respect IU. I think she is very charming because she melts her emotions and life into her own style of music and on stage. SeoRyoung I spoke a lot with the other GWSN members, and we want to make our own thing. Anne I don’t think there’s a specific one, but we want to become artists who can give inspiration. MinJu I recently went to Epik High’s concert and I was really happy. LeNa Questions by 𝙽𝙸𝚉⁷@murasakimtae: What concept/skill do you want to explore in the future as a group? We went to develop our own charm. Miya Participating in GWSN’s song choreography. SeoKyoung I want to have a clearer color of music and performance. SeoRyoung I want to try various things following the trends and changes of the time. Anne I want to make the concept that we’ve already got more detailed. MinJu I want to try various things. LeNa What type of music do you listen to as of now? Hip-hop / Rap. Miya R&B, Soul, K-Pop. SeoKyoung I’m the type to try my best not to put a limit on genre, so I don’t have a special type or genre that I listen to, but these days I have a lot of Charlie Puth songs on my playlist. SeoRyoung I’m the type to find different playlists instead of listening to one genre of music or just the music I like. Anne I think I mostly listen to dance music and pop songs these days. MinJu I listen to diverse types of music. LeNa Who is/are your favorite artist/s today? Name 1 or 2. Wonstein / MONSTA X. Miya BLACKPINK’s Rosé and (G)I-DLE’s Jeon SoYeon. SeoKyoung IU, Charlie Puth. SeoRyoung I think asking what I like the most is a really difficult question. I’m the type who likes not getting too immersed in one thing and experiencing many different things. Anne I listen to Baek YeRin a lot these days. MinJu Choosing a favorite is too difficult, but these days I listen to and like 21 Savage’s album. LeNa What movie or series have you finished watching recently? Japanese dramas. Miya “The Big Bang Theory”. SeoKyoung A movie… I don’t remember. SeoRyoung “Dune”, “Escape from Mogadishu”, “The Throne” Anne I watched the “The Chronicles of Narnia” series. MinJu I watched a movie called “If Only”. Miya Making other people smile and giving them comfort through dance and song, which I love. SeoKyoung Being able to show you a lot of charm on stage. SeoRyoung Being on stage. Anne Being able to show you song and dance, which I love. MinJu Being able to meet Groo, of course. LeNa What is each member’s favorite choreography? ‘I Can’t Breathe’. Miya From the song ‘Puzzle Moon’ in our first album. The choreography where we make a big moon. SeoKyoung I personally like the choreography from ‘Toktok’ and ‘All Mine (Coast of Azure)’. SeoRyoung ‘Puzzle Moon’, ‘Melting Point’, and ‘Like It Hot’. Anne I like the ‘BAZOOKA!’ choreography. MinJu ‘Puzzle Moon’. LeNa Do you have a life motto? If so, what is it? Be honest with yourself. Miya “There’s no such thing as free…” It means that you can’t get anything without putting in an effort. SeoKyoung Opportunities only come to those who believe that they exist. / Don’t be hurt by things that can’t be helped. SeoRyoung I think there are a lot of important parts to life, so I don’t have a set motto. Anne Let’s always smile. I think you’ll be happy if you smile even when it feels difficult. MinJu I don’t really have one. LeNa What show or movie do you recommend at the moment? “The Devil Wears Prada” Miya The “Home Alone” series. SeoKyoung I recommend the tvN drama “Happiness”! It’s interesting! SeoRyoung “The Matrix Resurrections” came out in Korea, I want to go watch it! Anne I recommend the “Harry Potter” series. MinJu I’m currently watching “New Journey to The West” compilations when I eat. LeNa What do you think you would be doing if you hadn’t become a member of GWSN? I would be doing what I want to do. Miya I would still dance. I think I would maybe open a dance studio. SeoKyoung I think I would probably be doing music somewhere. SeoRyoung I don’t want to imagine that but, if that was the case, I would have still worked really hard to become a singer. Anne I think I would still be working in music. MinJu A university student..? LeNa Questions by ✿ @miyamiamor: Which member has the greatest duality in the group? Who could it be? Miya Miya, she’s really a super super cutie. SeoKyoung I’m not sure 😊 SeoRyoung I want to keep it a secret!! Anne I think all of the members have a plot-twist-like charm instead of duality. MinJu I think all the members have a plot-twist-like charm. LeNa If you had the opportunity, which Western artist would you like to collaborate with? I think it would be nice to collaborate with anyone. Miya Alessia Cara, I’m a big fan of hers. SeoKyoung Selena Gomez. SeoRyoung I have a lot of artists that I respect. They all have different styles and strengths so I think I could learn a lot from either of them. Anne I think it would be great to collaborate with them regardless of who it is. MinJu Post Malone, Anderson .Paak, Pink Sweat$ LeNa Will you guys have more concepts like ‘I Can’t Breathe’ in the future? It’s my favorite GWSN B-Side! I want to do it! Miya If Groo want us to, we’ll think about it optimistically. SeoKyoung Uhm,, if Groo want us to then I guess we’d have to choose that. SeoRyoung If Groo likes that, then we’d better do it! Anne Uhm if we get the chance in the future I’d like to try it one more time. MinJu If we get the chance to! LeNa Miya seems to have a beautiful, unique, and soft voice that suits so well with ballads. Will you sing more for us in the future? Thank you! I’ll practice more and try my best! Miya What is the hardest part of being an idol? How do you cope with hard times? I worried a lot because Korean pronunciation is difficult for me. The members and managers helped me a lot. Miya Not being able to spend time with my family is the hardest. I cope and get healed by spending time alone. SeoKyoung Not making things obvious. I want to have a good influence on people who are watching or listening to me so, even if I’m having a hard time or sick, I don’t want to show them that side of me. I listen to music, write in my diary, or do things that can change my mood! During those times, the fans help a lot! Just reading the letters from fans in the fan café makes me feel that I have someone on my side who is waiting for me, which is a great comfort!SeoRyoung I think right now is the hardest things have been so far. Due to COVID-19, even if we’re on stage it’s hard to meet fans and it’s upsetting that we can only meet fans online or through letters. We want to give fans our energy in person and receive Groos energy too. I hope a day when the situation is better comes soon. I’m holding on by watching videos from our performances back in the day and recalling the memories we made together with Groo. Anne I don’t think anything has been particularly difficult about being an idol. If there’s something difficult, I think I just spend time alone. MinJu An uncertain future? I don’t think that it applies just to idols, but anyone who is living in this world is the same. Isn’t the future fun and beautiful because it is unknown? LeNa Please tell us the first impressions you had of each other vs. the impressions you have now. At first, because we couldn’t speak to each other, I didn’t know but now everyone is kind. Miya On Anne’s audition day, the company staff were secretly watching her in the next room. The dance song was ‘Bang Bang’ by Jessie J, which I had performed on “Produce 101” so I was really surprised. I really wanted her to pass the audition so that we could practice it together later. Now she’s my one and only precious unique but charming cute younger sister. SeoKyoung First impression… I don’t remember well now because we’ve been together for so long. Haha. I think I was always nervous to meet anyone when I was a trainee! SeoRyoung I don’t really remember. Anne I don’t remember everything but the member who I remember the most is SeoRyoung. We were attending the same school but the vocal club that SeoRyoung belonged to sang a song at lunchtime. That’s the first time I saw her. She was cute. MinJu I don’t remember our first impressions. LeNa (For Miya) How did BAXX start? Did you do any other dance-related activities before GWSN? I started liking K-Pop, so I joined the group as a friend’s recommendation. We did a lot of dance covers then. Miya I know Soso has experience in waacking, have any of you ever been interested in learning some kind of dance? I want to learn jazz or R&B properly. Miya I want to try hip-hop. SeoKyoung I’m always interested! If I get the chance, I want to learn it. SeoRyoung I want to learn everything that will develop my performance skills if I can because my work involves being on stage. I want to experience diverse things regardless of genre. Anne I have a lot of interest in dancing so I have a lot of greed when it comes to wanting to learn it through many genres. MinJu I want to do a cool performance with dance. LeNa What do you miss the most about not being an idol? I don’t miss anything! Miya I miss being able to spend time with family. SeoKyoung I don’t really know haha. SeoRyoung I couldn’t finish my schooling career like other people because I have been preparing to debut since I was young. Anne The youthfulness you experience during school? I feel a little bit sad that I couldn’t attend school properly. MinJu I don’t think there’s anything. I’m grateful for and satisfied with everything. LeNa Where do you see yourself in 10 years? As a cool Miya. Miya I’ll be traveling the entire globe. SeoKyoung I think I’ll be more mature than now and doing something else. SeoRyoung I have a lot of greed so I think I’ll have become a multi-talented entertainer. Anne I think I’ll be doing something that I like 10 years later. MinJu I’m also anticipating it. Anne There are still a lot of styles and concepts that we haven’t tried, so I think it will be good for us to slowly try them one by one. MinJu I want to try a concept where we play and have fun. LeNa What were your favorite stage outfits to wear? ‘I Can’t Breathe’. Miya The ‘Wonderboy, the Aerialist’ suit. SeoKyoung I like the ‘Pinky Star (RUN)’ and ‘RED-SUN(021)’ costumes the most! SeoRyoung The all-white ‘Puzzle Moon’ outfit, the outfit we showed you in our 3rd mini-album, the ‘BAZOOKA!’ outfit, the all-white outfit from ‘Like It Hot’, and the one we wore during the first performance. Anne I like the costumes that we wore during ‘BAZOOKA!’. MinJu All of them are really pretty but the white clothes from ‘Puzzle Moon’ really matched well with the song. LeNa Who are GWSN’s musical inspirations? I’m especially curious about Miya and Anne. I’m listening to diverse genres. Miya I think it will be difficult to choose just one. I think it’s possible to get inspiration from several life experiences. Anne If GWSN ever goes on a world tour, where would you want to go? I want to meet as many Groos as possible. Miya South America. I want to experience their explosive energy in real life and communicate with them. SeoKyoung Anywhere that Groo is! SeoRyoung I want to revisit the countries that I’ve been to so far and visit all of the countries we haven’t visited yet. Anne I want to go all over the world. MinJu The whole world. SeoKyoung I want to try a unique and pretty hairstyle! Something like the ribbon hair from ‘BAZOOKA!’. I want to try a gray color or a bright color! SeoRyoung I’d like to try everything that I haven’t tried yet. However, instead of something unique and splashy, I’d prefer something more natural. Anne Blue or black hair. MinJu Is there something that Groo wants to see? LeNa Questions by kale⁷✥ @purplegwsn: What’s your favorite part about being an idol? Being able to show you a cool performance. Miya I like being able to share emotions with people through performances and being able to meet and communicate with fans. SeoKyoung I like the fact that stories become diverse because of charms and emotions that you can express through music or a stage. SeoRyoung The moment of being on stage. Anne Being able to show the dance and song that I like on stage. MinJu Being able to meet fans who I give love to and receive love from. LeNa How have things changed for you in the last three years since your debut? I’ve gained confidence when it comes to being on stage. Miya I don’t have as much cheek fat as I used to back then haha. SeoKyoung I think I’ve become more mature than before. SeoRyoung I think the way that I appear onstage has changed a lot. If you compare performances from when we debuted to now, I think I’ve gained more freedom and in the event of an unexpected situation I can handle it more professionally now. Anne I think I’ve become more mature. MinJu I’ve become more solid. LeNa Is there any kind of concept that you want to do in the future? I want to do a number of them. Miya If Groo lets us know their opinions, we’ll think about it positively. So, please tell us the concept that you want to see. SeoKyoung Uhm… I kind of want to do a unique series concept. SeoRyoung I want to try any concept that will suit all of the members well. If I had to really choose one, I’d choose something like the strong female role like from the drama “One the Woman”. Anne There isn’t a concept that I definitely want to do yet but I want to try the basic concepts with more attention to detail. MinJu I want to do a fun concept where we can play on stage. LeNa How are the members spending time these days? These days I’m learning bass guitar. Miya We’re resting well. SeoKyoung I’m good, thank you, and you? 😊 lol SeoRyoung I’m taking a break and also practicing while being careful of COVID-19. Anne I’m resting while also practicing. MinJu I’m missing Groo. LeNa Questions by @ar7ng: Which music genres GWSN has been into lately. I’m listening to old-school songs these days. Miya Genres like Niki’s songs. SeoKyoung I don’t listen to music while distinguishing genres but these days I think I listen to a lot of acoustic band music. SeoRyoung I’m listening to a lot of diverse genres but I end up listening to songs that become popular at the time. These days “Street Woman Fighter” is popular in Korea. So, I’m listening to a lot of songs from that show. Anne R&B, K-Pop. MinJu I can’t name one specific genre because I listen to all sorts of genres. Lena Does GWSN have any new interests or hobbies? Bass guitar! Miya Watching Japanese dramas and studying Japanese with Miya. SeoKyoung My interest is in songwriting and composing. SeoRyoung I’m checking out a lot of clothing scrapbooks these days. Anne I’m drawing pictures. MinJu I want to learn the electric or bass guitar. Lena A genre/concept GWSN would like to try? I want to try a lot of things. Miya A song that can become strength when you want to be depressed doing nothing. SeoKyoung I want to try a lot of different things! SeoRyoung If it is a concept that suits us, I really want to try a lot of things. If I had to choose one, I would choose a female hero vibe to try. Anne I want to try a more dream-like concept. MinJu A concept where you can play and have fun on stage. LeNa Question by abby aka lil racha @hpewrldian: Does GWSN plan on touring in the US anytime soon, or having any concerts in general? I want to someday. Miya Unfortunately, we don’t have a plan to. SeoKyoung We don’t have a set plan yet, but I’d like to think we will someday. I hope Groo waits for us until then.
